About The Event

Heathen Wine Tours heads to Portugal and Spain! Oh yeah, and what if we do this while they are in the middle of harvest???? WHATTTTT? That's right our winemaking friends have summoned us to come get dirty, and this is by far the best summons I've ever been part of!!!

We'll start our trip with a 3 night stay in the north of Portugal in the town of Amarante at the 5 star Relais & Chateaux resort, Casa da Calcada. This 16th century palace sits overlooking the Tamega River and is the home to a Michelin one star restaurant Largo do Paco. We'll use this as our home base as we spend the next days in and out of the vineyards of the Douro Valley. Our winery stops will include some of the most revered and awarded wines in the world. We'll break bread in cellars and vineyards and take part in harvest with our friends Luis Seabra and Macanita. As we head north we'll stop in Vinho Verde to see the new stars in the region at Sem Igual, and then visit a crazy man making wine in his cellar at Vasco Craft. We'll also call on our homies at Quinta Nova to learn the art of Port production, and follow the tasting with lunch in the vineyards. Bacalao and roasted meats reign supreme, and we'll search the rivers and terraced vines for all the Douro can offer!

Next we'll be heading to the "green part" of Spain to Galicia, to drink insane Albarino and other grapes you've never heard of. Sitting this close to the Atlantic where else would you find better seafood? That's right we're gonna check out the Northwest of Spain where rivers, ocean breezes and the land roll green like the Irish on St. Patricks Day! We'll stay at Pazos de Arenteiro, a privately owned hotel in the medieval village of BIC dating back over 1000 years. From our abode we'll visit the best wineries in the region of Rias Baixas and Galicia. Komokabras and Gomariz are both legends in this land, and we'll spend time with them on their turf. Picking and crushing grapes as we go, to assist these top wineries in their 2022 harvest. The next day we'll head to our friends in Lagariz to visit A Pita Cega, a one woman operation making wines in an ancient church on the property. Zesty white wines with the best seafood in the world, and slow cooked meats with sumptuous reds all in small villages along the river and coast.

All in all we'll visit no less than 8 of the greatest wineries Europe has to offer, dine in a Michelin starred restaurant, stay at a 5 star property and another where we'll have the property to ourselves. We'll meet the best old school winemakers and owners and oh yeah.......we'll be there for harvest to get dirty! Seriously, how can life get better than this?

The trip will start at the Porto airport and drop off in Santiago de Compostela.
