Tasting with Renato Spanu owner of Jankara Winery in Sardinia, Italy

It's the holiday season and since most of us will not be traveling we thought we would take a trip to Italy! But not just any part of Italy, we're going to heart of the Mediterranean to one of the most beautiful islands in the world. With its beautiful beaches, cozy mountain villages, and some of the most kind and generous people Sardinia is a hidden gem. Not only is some of the best food in the world from here, but the wines are second to none. So come with us on an afternoon adventure to a place many people can't find on a map.

Renato Spanu, owner of Jankara Winery, will join us for an intimate wine tasting. Hailing from Gallura, in the Northeast of Sardinia, this "land of stones" makes some of the best indigenous wines on the island. Jankara was founded in 2006 and produced their first wine in 2008. Renato and his wife Angela have been making world class wines ever since and now produce four different wines each vintage.

We'll taste their latest release of the scintillating, vivacious and fresh Vermentino. A white grape that thrives in this stony atmosphere and makes you yearn for fresh cheese and seafood.  We'll also delve into one of their red wines, a grape known here as Cannonau, from the most famous and revered vineyards in the region. Cannonau is also known as Grenache in other parts of the world and here it thrives in Sardinia. It plays a balancing game between juicy, brilliant red fruits and earthy, mulchy, forest floor mushroom grooviness. 

This event is a fundraiser for Foundation for New Education Initiatives, Inc. and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Partial proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, December 29th at 4:30 PM EST for the best happy hour in months.
